Topic:

Write a letter to the President of the Republic of Nigeria, informing him of the prevalence and menace of drug abuse; proffer solutions to tackle this hydra-headed challenge

Background

The ACPN National Anti-drug Abuse Competition is the brainchild of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) which aligns with the United Nation International Standards on drug use (abuse) prevention. The Competition which started 6 years ago, is structured to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which comes up on the 26th of June every year.

The recent drug use report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) discovered that the situation of drug use (abuse) in Nigeria is 14.3 percent; this is about triple the global average at 5.6 percent. This calls for innovative methods to address the issue of substance abuse particularly among the young people.

AIM

The essence of the Competition is to create distaste for substance abuse among young people, thereby establishing their feet on a brighter and beautiful future.
